Request for Proposal

A government announcement in the Commerce Business Daily and on the Internet requesting vendors to propose a technical solution, with costs, for a statement of need or a statement of work.

Request for Proposal

A request for proposal (referred to as RFP) is an invitation for suppliers, often through a bidding process, to submit a proposal on a specific commodity or service. 

Request for Proposal

The official document requesting from prospective contractors a detailed description of the manner in which they plan to achieve the goals specified by the RFP were they awarded a contract to do so.  The plan usually includes the proposer’s estimate of total cost and required schedule.

Request for Proposal

1. Request for proposal is the package a prospective entity (provider) receives from the department to help formulate a proposal to perform a service for the department. Upon submission of the proposal, it is scored and evaluated by the department using the criteria communicate to the prospective entity in the RFP it received.
2. Request for proposal is a method of solicitation used for selected, technically complex procurements when deliverables cannot be easily defined.
3. Request for proposal is a request for submittal of a technical proposal from a provider that demonstrates competence and qualifications to perform the requested services, and shows an understanding of the specific contract.
