DEFINITION
National Military Command System

The priority component of the Worldwide Military Command and Control System
(WWMCCS) designed to support the National Command Authorities and Joint Chiefs of Staff in the exercise of their responsibilities. The NMC provides the means by which the President and the Secretary of Defense can receive warning and intelligence upon which accurate and timely decisions can be made, the resources of the Military Departments applied, military mission assigned, and by which direction can be given to CINCs or the commanders of other commands established by the NCA. The NMCS must be capable of providing information so that appropriate and timely responses can be selected and directed by the NCA and implemented. In addition, the NMCS supports the Joint Chiefs of Staff in carrying out their responsibilities.
