DEFINITION
Mean Time Between Failures

A measure of the reliability of an item. Defined as the total functioning life of an item
divided by the total number of failures within the population during the measurement
interval. The definition holds for time, rounds, miles, events, or other measures of unit life. MTBF is a basic measure of reliability.
