DEFINITION
Functional Kill

The destruction of a target by disabling vital components in a way not immediately
detectable, but which nevertheless prevents the target from functioning properly. An
example is the destruction of electronics in a guidance system by a neutral particle
beam. Also referred to as "soft kill."
