Function: Function refers to the five major activities in ICS: Command, Operations, Planning, Logistics, and Finance/Administration. The term function is also used when describing the activity involved, e.g., the planning function. A sixth function, Intelligence, may be established, if required, to meet incident management needs.
Function - The ‘function’ of the item is the action or actions it is designed to perform. For software, the ‘function’ means the action or actions it performs directly to an item subject to the EAR or as a stand-alone application.
In general, an operation performed on or by a typewriter during use of the typewriter for typing. As used by the typewriter industry, however, the term ÂgfunctionÂh is limited to an operation other than (a) impressing a type-member* against a record-medium* to imprint a character* (which thereby concurrently effects a character-space*), or (b) effecting a word-space*. Examples of typewriter operations considered by the industry to be functions are: backspace, carriage return, case-shift*, tabular stopping, line-space*, ribbon feed, and similar typewriter movements.
Function has been defined 25 different ways in documents like Risk Steering Committee DHS Risk Lexicon 2010 Edition, Incident Command System Training, Specially Designed Decision Tool, and 7 more.
